SIGNIFICANT CONAZ FAMILY HIGHLIGHTS

GRADUATION NEWS

Getting a college degree is an achievement for anyone --- but for an 89-year-old retired Nazarene evangelist, Clell Elliott, it's a lifelong dream come true.

"This is wonderful to dress up in this cap and gown and march across the stage and receive a diploma," Elliott said. "I really don't know, as I said, if I have a vocabulary efficient to express how I feel and my emotions, but I know one thing, it's great."

Elliott enrolled at the University of Rio Grande in 1958, and completed three years. But he was forced to drop out when he lost his job and got a new job out of town. Elliott attended other schools throughout his life, but never received a degree, until becoming part of the Class of 2012. "It's just great to get an education, to get a diploma," Elliott said.

This is clearly a dream come true, even if it was a half a century in the making. The entire district family sends congratulations to Rev. Elliott for this significant achievement. What an inspirational story!

DISTRICT ASSEMBLY ACTION

Following a 99% approval of the voting delegates, a motion was carried that resulted in a NAME CHANGE for our district. To better align ourselves with the unique geographical distinctions and boundaries of our district churches as well as to reflect the terminology of the other four districts in the state of Ohio, we are now officially the SOUTH CENTRAL OHIO DISTRICT CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE. Please be reminded that this action took effect immediately following the adjournment of our District Assembly.

"DIVERSITY MATTERS": a celebration of multicultural awareness

Dr. Tom Nees was used by God in a powerful way to "EQUIP" the South Central Ohio District for making a significant multicultural impact through the ministry efforts of the local church. This "free" event was sponsored by COMO (Central Ohio Multicultural Outreach) and was held at Northwest Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, May 5. On Sunday afternoon, May 6, there was a significant celebration worship event also at Northwest Church with Dr. Tom Nees preaching and featuring the music of the Columbus Korean Soh Mang choir.

This magnificent resource event will form the foundation for developing an intentional and effective strategy that will require a collaborative effort on the part of our Columbus metro area churches in order to redemptively reach our increasingly racialized culture.
